Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides the sin that he caused Judah to sin so that they did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.


The murderer rises at dusk to kill the poor and needy, and in the night is like a thief.


They track me down; now they surround me; they set their eyes to cast me to the ground.


They kill the widow and the stranger, they murder the orphan,


Do not lie in wait like an outlaw against the home of the righteous; do no violence to the place where the righteous live;


But your eyes and heart are only on your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence.


You pierced with his own arrows the head of his warriors, who came like a whirlwind to scatter us, gloating as if ready to devour the poor who were in hiding.


After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go.


Soon afterwards he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him,


So, out of hostility to him, the lords of Shechem set ambushes on the mountain tops. They robbed all who passed by them along that way; and it was reported to Abimelech.


Then the king said to Doeg, “You, Doeg, turn and attack the priests.” Doeg the Edomite turned and attacked the priests; on that day he killed eighty-five who wore the linen ephod.


Look around and learn all the hiding places where he lurks, and come back to me with sure information. Then I will go with you; and if he is in the land, I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”
