While Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. The conspiracy grew in strength, and the people with Absalom kept increasing.


If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you shall offer a male without blemish; you shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, for acceptance in your behalf before the Lord.


Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent them to Balaam and to the officials who were with him.


Then Balaam said to Balak, “Build me seven altars here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me.”


Balak did as Balaam had said; and Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

Now Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, so he did not go, as at other times, to look for omens, but set his face toward the wilderness.
