They grumbled in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the Lord.


In spite of all this they still sinned; they did not believe in his wonders.


When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was nearer; for God thought, “If the people face war, they may change their minds and return to Egypt.”


When the people heard these harsh words, they mourned, and no one put on ornaments.

But you were unwilling to go up. You rebelled against the command of the Lord your God;


When you returned and wept before the Lord, the Lord would neither heed your voice nor pay you any attention.


And when the Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, “Go up and occupy the land that I have given you,” you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God, neither trusting him nor obeying him.


But my companions who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholeheartedly followed the Lord my God.


Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept, until they had no more strength to weep.
