Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves.


Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, and kneeling before him, she asked a favor of him.


As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen.


As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.


He allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.


In his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.]


“Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say—‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour.
