O God, why do you cast us off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
Why then have you broken down its walls, so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
One's own folly leads to ruin, yet the heart rages against the Lord.
Why, O Lord, do you make us stray from your ways and harden our heart, so that we do not fear you? Turn back for the sake of your servants, for the sake of the tribes that are your heritage.
You will be in the right, O Lord, when I lay charges against you; but let me put my case to you. Why does the way of the guilty prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?
they and indeed all the nations will wonder, “Why has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused this great display of anger?”
And the people came to Bethel, and sat there until evening before God, and they lifted up their voices and wept bitterly.
