Jacob sent messengers before him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom,


So Esau settled in the hill country of Seir; Esau is Edom.


These are the descendants of Esau, ancestor of the Edomites, in the hill country of Seir.


Then Israel came to Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham.


Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.


so Jacob went down to Egypt. He himself died there as well as our ancestors,


not to engage in battle with them, for I will not give you even so much as a foot's length of their land, since I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.
