At noon Elijah mocked them, saying, “Cry aloud! Surely he is a god; either he is meditating, or he has wandered away, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.”


“No doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.


How you have counseled one who has no wisdom, and given much good advice!


All of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?


What is my strength, that I should wait? And what is my end, that I should be patient?


Is my strength the strength of stones, or is my flesh bronze?


In truth I have no help in me, and any resource is driven from me.


How forceful are honest words! But your reproof, what does it reprove?


Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength is spent.


Whom did he consult for his enlightenment, and who taught him the path of justice? Who taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding?
