Jacob said, “First sell me your birthright.”


Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.


Esau said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright; and look, now he has taken away my blessing.” Then he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”


What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit do we get if we pray to him?’


They said to God, ‘Leave us alone,’ and ‘What can the Almighty do to us?’


For he has said, ‘It profits one nothing to take delight in God.’


In any case of disputed ownership involving ox, donkey, sheep, clothing, or any other loss, of which one party says, “This is mine,” the case of both parties shall come before God; the one whom God condemns shall pay double to the other.
