Once when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was famished.


Jacob said, “First sell me your birthright.”


Jacob sent messengers before him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom,


instructing them, “Thus you shall say to my lord Esau: Thus says your servant Jacob, ‘I have lived with Laban as an alien, and stayed until now;


These are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom).


These are the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these are their clans.


Magdiel, and Iram; these are the clans of Edom (that is, Esau, the father of Edom), according to their settlements in the land that they held.


So Esau settled in the hill country of Seir; Esau is Edom.


These are the descendants of Esau, ancestor of the Edomites, in the hill country of Seir.


In his days Edom revolted against the rule of Judah, and set up a king of their own.


Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; trembling seized the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan melted away.
