God said, “No, but your wife Sarah shall bear you a son, and you shall name him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.


But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this season next year.”


But God said to Abraham, “Do not be distressed because of the boy and because of your slave woman; whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for it is through Isaac that offspring shall be named for you.


Now Sarah said, “God has brought laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.”


He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.”


These are the descendants of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham was the father of Isaac,


Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,


Then he gave him the covenant of circumcision. And so Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.


and not all of Abraham's children are his true descendants; but “It is through Isaac that descendants shall be named for you.”
