David brought up the men who were with him, every one with his household; and they settled in the towns of Hebron.


Now the name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. The woman was clever and beautiful, but the man was surly and mean; he was a Calebite.


When Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, he no longer sought for him.


When David and his men came to the city, they found it burned down, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.


David's two wives also had been taken captive, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel.
