and the first seats in the synagogues, and the first couches at the suppers;

And [have] the front seats in the synagogues and the chief couches (places of honor) at feasts,

and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts:

They long for places of honor in the synagogues and at banquets.

and to sit in the first chairs in the synagogues, and to have the first seats at feasts,

And to sit in the first chairs, in the synagogues, and to have the highest places at suppers:

Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,

They love the first couch in the suppers, and the best seats in the synagogues,

Then He said to them in His teaching, "Take heed of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and like greetings in the marketplaces,

who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense pray at length. These will receive more abundant judgment."
