Brothers, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and you shall hate your enemy.'


A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.


And taking hold of him, they brought him to the Areopagus, saying, "Are we able to know what this new doctrine is you speak about?


But we are persuaded concerning you, beloved, of better things and those pertaining to salvation, even though we speak in this manner.


Therefore let that which you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.


Because this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,


Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.


Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.


And this is His commandment: that we should believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and should love one another, just as He gave commandment.


Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.


Beloved, if in this way God loved us, indeed we ought to love one another.


And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God should love his brother also.


Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; and everyone that loves has been born of God and knows God.
