Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.

I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.


I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old,


Like a lame man’s legs, which hang useless, is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
