An as he wus waakin aboot, tha heid preeshts, tha maistèrs o tha Laa an tha eldèrs cum up tae hïm an saed, “Bi whut thortie ir ye daein these thïngs, an wha gien ye ït?” 29 An Jesus saed bak tae thaim, “A want tae ax ye yin question, an whaniver yis gie me tha answer, A wull tell yis bi whut thortie A dae these thïngs. 30 Whaniver Jhone wus baptisin, wus thïs frae heiven or jist a notion o man? Answer me that!” 31 Noo the' taakt thïs ower amang thairsels, an the' thocht: “If we say ‘Frae heiven’, then he'll say, ‘Sae hoo cum yis dïdnae believe hïm?’ 32 But ïf we say, ‘It wus frae men’, whut then?” Fer the' wur feart tha fowk wud turn on thaim, becas they aa thocht Jhone wus a proaphit. 33 Sae the' saed, “We cannae tell.” An whaniver Jesus heerd thïs, he saed, “Then A'll no be tellin yis ether bi whut thortie A dae these thïngs!” |
