¹ We fetched our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the desert.

² 0 Our skin was burnt as an oven, by reason of the violence of the famine.

³ 1 They oppressed the women in Sion, and the virgins in the cities of Juda.

⁴ 2 The princes were hanged up by their hand: they did not respect the persons of the ancient.

⁵ 3 They abused the young men indecently: and the children fell under the wood.

⁶ 4 The ancients have ceased from the gates: the young men from the choir of the singers.

⁷ 5 The joy of our heart is ceased, our dancing is turned into mourning.

⁸ 6 The crown is fallen from our head woe to us, because we have sinned.

⁹ 7 Therefore is our heart sorrowful, therefore are our eyes become dim,

¹⁰ 8 For mount Sion, because it is destroyed, foxes have walked upon it.

¹¹ 9 But thou, O Lord, shalt remain for ever, thy throne from generation to generation.

¹² 0 Why wilt thou forget us for ever? why wilt thou forsake us for a long time?

¹³ 1 Convert us, O Lord, to thee, and we shall be converted: renew our days, as from the beginning.

¹⁴ 2 But thou hast utterly rejected us, thou art exceedingly angry against us.

¹⁵ Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, when I was in the midst of the captives by the river Chobar, the heavens were opened, and I saw the visions of God.

¹⁶ On the fifth day of the month, the same was the fifth year of the captivity of king Joachin,

¹⁷ The word of the Lord came to Ezechiel the priest the son of Bud in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river Chobar: and the hand of the Lord was there upon him.

¹⁸ And I saw, and behold a whirlwind came out of the north: and a great cloud, and a fire infolding it, and brightness was about it: and out of the midst thereof, that is, out of the midst of the fire, as it were the resemblance of amber:

¹⁹ And in the midst thereof the likeness of four living creatures: and this was their appearance: there was the likeness of a man in them.

²⁰ Every one had four faces, and every one four wings.

²¹ Their feet were straight feet, and the sole of their foot was like the sole of a calf's foot, and they sparkled like the appearance of glowing brass.

²² And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides: and they bad faces, and wings on the four sides,
