⁸ Therefore thou, O Lord, God of the righteous, hast not appointed repentance for the righteous, for Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, who did not sin against thee, but thou hast appointed repentance for me, who am a sinner.

⁸ Therefore, Lord, God of those who do what is right, you didn’t offer Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who didn’t sin against you, a chance to change their hearts and lives. But you offer me, the sinner, the chance to change my heart and life,

⁸ You, Lord, are the God of righteous people. Repentance was not necessary for Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for they did not sin against you. But for sinners like me you have made repentance possible.
