Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.


Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.”


For again the Edomites had come and struck Judah, and carried away captives.


Let my adversaries be clothed with dishonor. Let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.


I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his crown will shine.”


Remember, YHWH, what the children of Edom said in the day of Jerusalem, “Destroy it, y’all! Y’all destroy it down to its foundation!”


Because for your sake, I have borne reproach. Shame has covered my face.


You have shortened the days of his youth. You have covered him with shame. Selah.


Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.


Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. Whoever is glad at calamity will not be unpunished.


YHWH says, “Concerning all my evil neighbors, who touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit: Look, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them.


Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us. For we have sinned against YHWH our God, we and our ancestors, from our youth even to this day. We have not obeyed YHWH our God’s voice.”


For I have sworn by myself,” says YHWH, “that Bozrah will become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. All its cities will be perpetual wastes.”


“We are ashamed because we have heard reproach. Disgrace covers our faces, because strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the house of YHWH.”


Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Edom, who dwells in the land of Uz. The cup will pass through to you also. You will be drunken, and will make yourself naked.


The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, daughter of Zion. He will no more carry you away into captivity. He will visit your iniquity, daughter of Edom. He will uncover your sins.


I will make you an everlasting desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then y’all will know that I am YHWH.


They will also clothe themselves with sackcloth, and horror will cover them. Shame will be on all faces, and baldness on all their heads.


Egypt will be a desolation and Edom will be a desolate wilderness, for the violence done to the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.


YHWH says: “For three transgressions of Edom, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and cast off all pity, and his anger raged continually, and he kept his wrath forever;


Then my enemy will see it, and shame will cover her who said to me, “Where is YHWH your God?” My eyes will see her. Now she will be trodden down like the mire of the streets.


You must not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. You must not abhor an Egyptian, because you lived as a foreigner in his land.


The children of the third generation who are born to them may enter into YHWH’s assembly.
