because they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon. They have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my ordinances, as David his father did.


Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the children of Ammon.


Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal, y’all! Don’t let one of them escape!” They seized them, and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and slaughtered them there.


Therefore YHWH’s anger burned against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”


It will happen that when Moab presents himself, when he wearies himself on the high place, and comes to his sanctuary to pray, that he will not prevail.


In that day, people will throw away their idols of silver and their idols of gold, which have been made for themselves to worship, to the moles and to the bats,


They will be disappointed, yes, confounded, all of them. Those who are makers of idols will go into confusion together.


“Y’all assemble and come. Y’all draw near together, those who have escaped from the nations. Those have no knowledge who carry the wood of their engraved image, and pray to a god that can’t save.


Therefore look, the days are coming,” says YHWH, “when I will send to him those who pour from pitchers, and they will pour him out, and they will empty his vessels, and shatter their containers in pieces.


“How it is broken down! How they wail! How Moab has turned the back with shame! So will Moab become a derision and a terror to all who are around him.”


Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh are undone; for your sons are taken away captive, and your daughters into captivity.


Because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you also will be taken captive. Chemosh will go out into exile, his priests and his princes together.


Won’t you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whoever YHWH our God has dispossessed from before us, them will we possess.
