13 Your gods, Judah, are as numerous as your cities, and y’all citizens of Jerusalem have set up as many shameful incense altars to Baal as streets in the city.’

The king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mountain of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon.


In every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked YHWH, the God of his fathers, to anger.


Their land also is full of worthless idols. They worship the work of their own hands, whay their own fingers have made.


For YHWH Almighty, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done to themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.


“The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond. It is engraved on the tablet of their heart, and on the horns of y’all’s altars.


For my people have forgotten me. They have burned incense to false gods. They have been made to stumble in their ways in the ancient paths, to walk in byways, in a way not built up,


Because they have forsaken me, and have defiled this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods that they didn’t know—they, their ancestors, and the kings of Judah—and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,


and have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I didn’t command, nor speak, which didn’t even enter into my mind.


“But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble, for you have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah.


But the shameful thing has devoured the labor of our ancestors from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.


Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us. For we have sinned against YHWH our God, we and our ancestors, from our youth even to this day. We have not obeyed YHWH our God’s voice.”


They built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through fire to Molech, which I didn’t command them. It didn’t even come into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.”


“The incense that y’all burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem—y’all and y’all’s ancestors, kings, officials, and the people of the land—didn’t YHWH remember them and didn’t it come into ʜɪꜱ mind?


But they wouldn’t listen or incline their ear. They didn’t turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.


Moreover I will put an end in Moab,” says YHWH, “him who offers in the high place, and him who burns incense to his gods.


Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that y’all have not known,


“that you have built for yourselves a vaulted place, and have made yourselves a lofty place in every street.


Israel is a luxuriant vine that produces his fruit. According to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars. As their land has prospered, they have adorned their sacred stones.


If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.


I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw y’all’s ancestors as the first fruit of the fig tree at its first season. But they came to Baal Peor, and consecrated themselves to the shameful thing, and became detestable like the thing they loved.
