Israel, trust in YHWH! Hᴇ is their help and their shield.


Look, y’all are nothing, and y’all’s deeds are worthless. The one who chooses y’all is an abomination.


Look, all of their deeds are vanity and nothingness. Their molten images are wind and emptiness.


I will declare your righteousness; and as for your works, they will not benefit you.


“Y’all are to tell them this: ‘The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.’”


But they are together brutish and foolish, instructed by idols made of wood.


Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, YHWH our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.


For my people have forgotten me. They have burned incense to false gods. They have been made to stumble in their ways in the ancient paths, to walk in byways, in a way not built up,


I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt. He will burn them, and carry them away captive. He will array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he will go out from there in peace.


“Y’all are to announce and proclaim among the nations, lifting up a banner, proclaiming and not concealing; Y’all are to say, ‘Babylon has been taken, Bel is disappointed, Merodach is dismayed! Her images are disappointed. Her idols are dismayed.’


They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.


Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed. They couldn’t blush. Therefore they will fall among those who fall. In the time of their visitation they will be cast down, says YHWH.


Listen! The voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: “Isn’t YHWH in Zion? Isn’t her King in her?” “Why have they provoked me to anger with their engraved images, and with foreign idols?”


The days of visitation have come. The days of reckoning have come. Israel will consider the prophet to be a fool, and the man who is inspired to be insane, because of the abundance of your sins, and because your hostility is great.


Those who pay attention to worthless idols forfeit the divine love that could be theirs.


It will come to pass in that day, says YHWH Almighty, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they will be remembered no more. I will also cause the prophets and the spirit of impurity to pass out of the land.


“Men, why are y’all doing these things? We are only human, just like y’all. We are bringing y’all good news, so that y’all will turn from these worthless things toward the living God, who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.


They have moved me to jealousy with what is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities. I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.


Y’all must not turn away to go after vain things that can’t profit and can’t deliver, because they are worthless.


When they arose early on the following morning, there was Dagon fallen with his face to the ground before the ark of YHWH! The head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were broken off on the threshold. Only Dagon’s torso was intact.
