At that time Rezin king of Syria recovered Elath to Syria, and drove the Jews from Elath; and the Syrians came to Elath, and lived there to this day.


The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and also Gimzo and its villages; and they lived there.


for they have devoured Jacob, and destroyed his homeland.


Nothing will remain but to bow down with the prisoners, and fall among the slain. For all this ʜɪꜱ anger is not turned away, but ʜɪꜱ hand is still stretched out.


They will fly down on the shoulders of the Philistines on the west. Together they will plunder the children of the east. They will extend their power over Edom and Moab, and the children of Ammon will obey them.


Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they don’t look to the Holy One of Israel, and they don’t seek YHWH!


Therefore YHWH’s anger burns against ʜɪꜱ people, and ʜᴇ has stretched out ʜɪꜱ hand against them and has struck them. The mountains tremble, and their dead bodies are as refuse in the middle of the streets. For all this, ʜɪꜱ anger is not turned away, but ʜɪꜱ hand is still stretched out.


Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is profane and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.


Manasseh eating Ephraim and Ephraim eating Manasseh, and they together will be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.


Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you, and on the families that don’t call on your name. For they have devoured Jacob. Yes, they have devoured him, consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.


I have winnowed them with a fan in the gates of the land. I have bereaved them of children. I have destroyed my people. They didn’t return from their ways.


But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, we said, ‘Y’all come! Let’s go to Jerusalem to get away from the Chaldean and Aramean army. So we have dwelt in Jerusalem.’”


For this, y’all must put on sackcloth, and y’all are to lament and wail, for the fierce anger of YHWH has not turned away from us.


See therefore, I have stretched out my hand over you, and have diminished your portion, and delivered you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd way.


I will stretch out my hand on them and make the land desolate and waste, from the wilderness toward Diblah, throughout all their habitations. Then they will know that I am YHWH.’”


The pride of Israel testifies to his face; yet they haven’t returned to YHWH their God, nor sought him, for all this.


“I sent plagues among y’all like I did Egypt. I have slain y’all’s young men with the sword, and have carried away y’all’s horses. I filled y’all’s nostrils with the stench of y’all’s camp, yet y’all haven’t returned to me,” says YHWH.


“I have overthrown some of y’all, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and y’all were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire, yet y’all haven’t returned to me,” says YHWH.


“I also have given y’all cleanness of teeth in all y’all’s cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet y’all haven’t returned to me,” says YHWH.


So two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water, and were not satisfied; yet y’all haven’t returned to me,” says YHWH.


“I struck y’all with blight and mildew many times in y’all’s gardens and vineyards, and the swarming locusts have devoured y’all’s fig trees and olive trees, yet y’all haven’t returned to me,” says YHWH.


those who have turned back from following YHWH, and those who haven’t sought YHWH nor inquired after him.


She didn’t obey the voice. She didn’t receive correction. She didn’t trust in YHWH. She didn’t draw near to her God.


Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they will be devoured. Many evils and troubles will come on them, so that they will say in that day, ‘Haven’t these evils come on us because our God is not among us?’
