Why did you flee secretly, and deceive me, and didn’t tell me, that I might have sent you away with mirth and with songs, with tambourine and with harp;


I am eighty years old, today. Can I discern between good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear the voice of singing men and singing women any more? Why then should your servant be a burden to my lord the king?


because they turned away from following ʜɪᴍ, and wouldn’t pay attention to any of his ways,


Because they don’t respect the works of YHWH, nor the operation of ʜɪꜱ hands, ʜᴇ will break them down and not build them up.


But look, there is joy and gladness, killing cattle and killing sheep, eating meat and drinking wine: “Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die.”


The mirth of tambourines ceases. The sound of those who rejoice ends. The joy of the harp ceases.


Woe to Ariel! Ariel, the city where David camped! Y’all are to add year to year, and let the feasts come around;


who say, “Let ʜɪᴍ make hurry do ʜɪꜱ work quickly, so that we may see it! Let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, so that we may know it!”


“Y’all come,” they say, “I will get wine, and we will fill ourselves with beer; and tomorrow will be as today, great beyond measure.”


I will cause the noise of your songs to cease. The sound of your harps won’t be heard any more.


but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. You have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which don’t see, or hear, or know; and you have not glorified the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways.


“There was a rich man who dressed in purple and fine linen, happily living in luxury every day.


Even lifeless things that make sounds, such as a pipe or harp, if they don’t make distinct sounds, how would it be known what is piped or harped?


They are jagged rocks in y’all’s love feasts, feasting with y’all without fear, shepherding only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dead and uprooted.


Only y’all must fear YHWH and serve ʜɪᴍ in truth with all y’all’s heart. Consider the great things ʜᴇ has done for y’all.
