Now look, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.


Give us help against the enemy, for the help of man is vain.


Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a lame foot.


They will be dismayed and confounded, because of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.


The inhabitants of this coast land will say in that day, ‘See what has happened to our hope, those we fled to for help and to be delivered from the king of Assyria. How then will we escape?’”


Look, you trust in Egypt, the staff of this splintered reed. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.


Why do you go about so much to change your ways? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria.


For YHWH Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on y’all when y’all enter into Egypt. Y’all will become an object of horror and astonishment, a curse and a reproach. And y’all will never see this place again.’


Now y’all will know-know that you* die by the sword, famine, and plague in the place where y’all desire to go to live.”


YHWH Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “I am about to punish Amon of Thebes, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with her gods and her kings, even Pharaoh, and those who trust in him.


When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke and tore all their shoulders. When they leaned on you, you broke and paralyzed all of their thighs.”


It also will be carried to Assyria for a present to a great king. Ephraim will receive shame, and Israel will be ashamed of his own counsel.


For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in ʜɪᴍ will not be put to shame.”


And hope does not shame us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
