Reuben said to them, “Y’all must not shed any blood. Y’all throw him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand on him”—that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.


and they took him, and threw him into the pit. The pit was empty. There was no water in it.


Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age, and he made an ornate rob for him.


They said to one another, “We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us.”


She had a garment of various colors on her, for the king’s daughters who were virgins dressed in such robes. Then his servant brought her out and bolted the door after her.


They divide my garments among them. They cast lots for my clothing.


They stripped him naked and put a scarlet robe on him.
