When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, there were twins in her womb!


The boys grew. Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field. Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents.

Isaac trembled violently, and said, “Who, then, is he who has taken game, and brought it to me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed.”


Isaac answered Esau, “Look! I have made him your lord, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants. I have sustained him with grain and new wine. What then will I do for you, my son?”


You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother. It will happen, when you will break loose, that you will shake his yoke from off your neck.”


The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau. He is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”


He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.


These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the children of Israel.
