16 You must destroy all the peoples whom YHWH your God will deliver to you. Your eye must not pity them. You must not serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.

They served their idols, which became a snare to them.


They must not dwell in your land, or they will cause you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”


Afterward,” says YHWH, “I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants, and the people, even those who are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life. He will strike them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, have pity, or have mercy.”’


“But if y’all do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before y’all, then those y’all allow to remain will be like barbs in y’all’s eyes and thorns in y’all’s sides. They will harass y’all in the land in which y’all dwell.


Don’t y’all be deceived! “Bad company corrupts good morals.”


you must not yield to him nor listen to him. Do not let your eye pity him, and do not spare or you conceal him.


Instead, you must execute-execute him. Your hand is to be first on him to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people.


Your eye must not pity him, but you are ot purge the innocent blood from Israel that it may go well with you.


Your eyes must not pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.


then you are to cut off her hand. Your eye must have no pity.


and when YHWH your God delivers them up before you, and you strike them, then must destroy-destroy them. You are not to make a covenant with them or show mercy to them.


Y’all must burn the idol of their gods with fire. Do not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, so that you are not snared in it, for it is an abomination to YHWH your God.


For it was of YHWH to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as YHWH commanded Moses.


They abandoned YHWH, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; and they provoked YHWH to anger.


I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before y’all. They will ensnare y’all, and their gods will be a snare to y’all.’”


They took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.


Gideon made an ephod out of it, and put it in Ophrah, his city. Then all Israel played the prostitute with it there; and it became a snare to Gideon and to his house.
