11 Therefore, because y’all trample on the poor and take a wheat tax, though y’all have built houses of cut stone, y’all will never dwell in them. Y’all have planted pleasant vineyards, but y’all will not drink their wine.

For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he will not build it up.


Gladness is taken away, and joy out of the fruitful field; and in the vineyards there will be no singing, neither joyful noise. Nobody will tread out wine in the presses. I have made the shouting stop.


They will make a plunder of your riches and make a prey of your merchandise. They will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses. They will lay your stones, your timber, and your dust in the middle of the waters.


Because y’all push with side and with shoulder, and butt all the diseased with your* horns until y’all have scattered them abroad,


The threshing floor and the wine press won’t feed them, and the new wine will fail her.


then I will do this to y’all: I will appoint terror over y’all, a wasting disease and fever that will consume the eyes and drain the soul. Y’all will sow your* seed in vain, for y’all’s enemies will eat it.


YHWH says: “For three transgressions of Israel, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals;


They trample the heads of the poor into the dust of the earth and deny justice to the oppressed. A man and his father use the same maiden, to profane my holy name.


I will strike the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory will perish, and the great houses will have an end,” says YHWH.


Y’all must proclaim in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, “Y’all must assemble on the mountains of Samaria, and see what unrest is in her, and what oppression is among them.”


Y’all must listen to this word, cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands, “Bring us drinks!”


“For look! YHWH commands and the great house will be smashed to pieces, and the little house into bits.


Do horses run on cliffs? Can one plow there with oxen? But y’all have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness,


Y’all must listen to this, those who trample the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,


I will bring my people Israel back from captivity, and they will rebuild the ruined cities, and inhabit them; and they will plant vineyards, and drink wine from them. They will also make gardens, and eat their fruit.


Therefore I will make Samaria like a rubble heap of the field, like places for planting vineyards; and I will pour down its stones into the valley, and I will uncover its foundations.


They covet fields and seize them, and houses, then take them away. They oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.


You will sow, but won’t reap. You will tread the olives, but won’t anoint yourself with oil; and crush grapes, but won’t drink the wine.


Their wealth will become a plunder, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but won’t inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but won’t drink their wine.


Y’all have planted much, but bring in little. Y’all eat, but don’t have enough. Y’all drink, but aren’t not enough to be tipsy. Y’all clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. The one who earns wages puts them into a bag with holes.’


Though Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and rebuild the ruined places,” YHWH Almighty says, “They will build, but I will demolish. They will be called ‘The Wicked Land,’ a people with whom YHWH is indignant forever.”


You will betroth a wife, and another man will lie with her. You will build a house, and you won’t dwell in it. You will plant a vineyard, and not use its fruit.


But y’all have dishonored the poor. Don’t the rich oppress y’all and personally drag y’all into court?
