When Apollos wanted to cross over to Achaia, the siblings encouraged him, and they wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed by grace.


I commend to y’all our sister Phoebe, who is a deacon of the assembly that is at Cenchreae,


just as I also strive to please everyone in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.


When I arrive, I will send whoever y’all approve with letters to carry y’all’s gift to Jerusalem.


According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But let each one be careful how they build.


For though y’all have ten thousand tutors in Christ, y’all don’t have many fathers. For in Christ Jesus, I became y’all’s father through the gospel.


For we don’t classify or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But in measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.


For it is not the one who commends themselves who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.


For even if I boast a bit much about our authority, which the Lord gave for building y’all up and not tearing y’all down, I will not be ashamed.


I have become a fool—y’all forced me! For I should have been commended by y’all, since I am the least inferior to the “super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.


Have y’all been thinking all this time that we are defending ourselves to y’all? We have been speaking in the sight of God in Christ, and everything, beloved, is for building y’all up.


For we are not like so many who peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as those from God and before God.


We aren’t commending ourselves to y’all again, but are giving y’all an opportunity to take pride in us, so that y’all will have an answer for those who take pride in appearances rather than in what is in heart.
