Everyone lies to their neighbor. They speak with flattering lips and with a duplicitous heart-heart.


For there is no faithfulness in their mouth. Their heart is destruction. Their throat is an open grave. They flatter with their tongue.


“You give your mouth to evil. Your tongue frames deceit.


Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.


None of the priests may drink wine before they enter into the inner court.


“You and your sons are not to drink wine or beer whenever y’all go into the Tent of Meeting, or y’all will die. This is a permanent statute throughout y’all’s generations.


“Their throat is an open grave. They deceive with their tongues.” “The poison of vipers is under their lips.”


Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:


A deacon must be a one-woman man, managing their children and their own household with excellence.


The overseer therefore must be without reproach, a one-woman man, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, able to teach,


not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, peaceable, free from the desire for money.


Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.


As a household manager for God, the overseer must be unaccusable, not arrogant, not quick-tempered, not always around wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain,


Likewise, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or enslaved to much wine. They are to be teachers of what is good,


Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My siblings, things should not be this way.


Y’all are to shepherd the flock of God around y’all, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly according to God’s direction; not for dishonest gain, but eagerly;
