And shall deliver him to the Gentiles, to mock and scourge and crucify him; and the third day he shall rise again.


Wherefore behold I send to you prophets, and wise-men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:


and the third day he shall rise again.


I will therefore chastise and release him.


But they insisted with loud voices, requiring that he should be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.


Five times I received from the Jews forty stripes save one.


And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment.
