Who is this—she who is coming up from the wilderness like columns of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with every powder of the merchant?


Now the men of Ai looked back and saw, behold, the smoke of the city rising up to the sky! They had no place to flee this way or that, since the people who had been fleeing to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.


And a second time they shouted, “Halleluyah! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever!”


Now behold, an old man was coming from his work in the field at evening. The man was of the hill country of Ephraim but dwelled in Gibeah, while the rest of the men of the place were Benjamites.
