Far be it from You to do such a thing—to cause the righteous to die with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked share the same fate! Far be it from You! Shall the Judge of the whole world not exercise justice?”


so that you turn your spirit against God and bring such words out of your mouth?


Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite of the clan of Ram became very angry. He was angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God.


“Do you think this is just? Do you say, ‘My righteousness is greater than God’s?’


“Would you really annul My judgment? Would you condemn Me to justify yourself?


Adonai is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His deeds.


These things you have done— Should I keep silent? You thought I was just like you— but I reprove you, and set the case before your eyes.


The heavens declare His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge. Selah


A man’s folly undermines his way, and his heart rages against Adonai.


Righteous are You, Adonai, when I plead my case with You. Yet I speak with You about justice. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the treacherous thrive?


When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he will die for it; because of his iniquity that he did, he will die.


Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of Adonai is unfair!’ House of Israel, are My ways not fair? Is it not your ways that are unfair?


“Yet the children of your people say, ‘The way of Adonai isn’t fair!’ but it is their way, theirs that is unfair.


Yet you say, ‘The way of Adonai is not fair!’ House of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his ways.”


Adonai is righteous in her midst. He will do no injustice. Morning by morning He brings His justice to light. He does not fail. Yet the unjust knows no shame.


You wearied Adonai with your words. Yet you say: “How did we weary Him?” When you say: “Everyone doing evil is good in the sight of Adonai, and He delights in them.” Or, “Where is the God of justice?”


For being ignorant of God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit themselves to the righteousness of God.


For no human, on the basis of Torah observance, will be set right in His sight—for through the Torah comes awareness of sin.


But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? God is not unrighteous to inflict wrath, is He? (I am speaking in human terms.)


But who in the world are you, O man, who talks back to God? Will what is formed say to the one who formed it, “Why did you make me like this?”


The Rock—blameless is His work. Indeed, all His ways are just. God of faithfulness without iniquity, righteous and upright is He.
