Now as they were crossing over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I will do for you before I am taken from you.” So Elisha said, “Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”


Their father had given them great gifts of silver, gold and precious things, along with fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.


Then He struck all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their vigor.


and the younger of them said to the father, ‘Father, give me the share of the property that comes to me.’ So he divided his wealth between them.


Now on the day he lets his sons inherit what he has, he must not treat the loved one’s son as firstborn, in place of the unloved one’s son, who is the firstborn.
