He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might deliver Jesus up to them.


Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple, and the elders who had come out against him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as you would against a robber?


So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are achieving nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”


They were all amazed and greatly perplexed, saying to one another, “What could this mean?”


As Peter and John were speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple guard, and the Sadducees came to them,


So after threatening Peter and John further, they released them, finding no way to punish them, because all the people were glorifying God for what had happened.


“We found the prison locked up in complete security and the guards standing in front of the doors, but when we opened the doors, we found no one inside.”


Then someone came and told them, “Behold, the men you put in prison are standing in the temple courts teaching the people!”


So the captain went with the officers and brought the apostles without the use of force, for they were afraid the people might stone them.
