For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, and not with cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be deprived of its power.


For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of our proclamation to save those who believe.


Now I, Paul, myself appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am humble when with you face to face, but bold toward you when absent!


The people who say such things should realize that what we say in our letters when we are absent, we will demonstrate by our actions when we are present.


For I do not want to seem as though I am trying to frighten you by my letters.


To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that! But whatever anyone else dares to boast about—I am speaking like a fool—I also dare to boast about.


I may be untrained in speech, but I do not lack knowledge; indeed, in every way we have been made known to you in everything.


since you seek proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.
