You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless were crushed.


"If I have withheld anything that the poor desired, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,


You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child.


But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you."


"But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.[4]


You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell?

They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!


And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
