Because you have raged against me and your arrogance has come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth; I will turn you back on the way by which you came.


Now therefore do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you in this fashion, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to save his people from my hand or from the hand of my ancestors. How much less will your God save you out of my hand!”


They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as if he were like the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of human hands.


For he adds rebellion to his sin; he claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God.”


Job opens his mouth in empty talk, he multiplies words without knowledge.”


Remember this, O Lord, how the enemy scoffs, and an impious people reviles your name.


He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see?


“I have heard the complaining of the Israelites; say to them, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread; then you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”


yet fools talk on and on. No one knows what is to happen, and who can tell anyone what the future holds?


Who among all the gods of these countries have saved their countries out of my hand, that the Lord should save Jerusalem out of my hand?’ ”


“Thus shall you speak to King Hezekiah of Judah: Do not let your God on whom you rely deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.


‘Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!


while their inhabitants, shorn of strength, are dismayed and confounded; they have become like plants of the field and like tender grass, like grass on the housetops, blighted before it is grown.


Because you have raged against me and your arrogance has come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth; I will turn you back on the way by which you came.


because they have perpetrated outrage in Israel and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken in my name lying words that I did not command them; I am the one who knows and bears witness, says the Lord.


Make him drunk, because he magnified himself against the Lord; let Moab wallow in his vomit; he too shall become a laughingstock.


Moab shall be destroyed as a people, because he magnified himself against the Lord.


Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your sight? You know, I too am watching, says the Lord.


You shall know that I, the Lord, have heard all the abusive speech that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, “They are laid desolate, they are given us to devour.”


therefore prophesy, and say: Thus says the Lord God: Because they made you desolate indeed, and crushed you from all sides, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you became an object of gossip and slander among the people;


“The king shall act as he pleases. He shall exalt himself and consider himself greater than any god, and shall speak horrendous things against the God of gods. He shall prosper until the period of wrath is completed, for what is determined shall be done.


You have spoken harsh words against me, says the Lord. Yet you say, “How have we spoken against you?”


and they said, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it.


How long shall this wicked congregation complain against me? I have heard the complaints of the Israelites, which they complain against me.


For they speak bombastic nonsense, and with licentious desires of the flesh they entice people who have just escaped from those who live in error.


to execute judgment on all, and to convict everyone of all the deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”


Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
