How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.


I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.


The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no-one who does good.


Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.


For all can see that the wise die, that the foolish and the senseless also perish, leaving their wealth to others.


I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.


To the arrogant I say, “Boast no more,” and to the wicked, “Do not lift up your horns.


Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise?


‘How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?


Wisdom is too high for fools; in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths.


Surely I am only a brute, not a man; I do not have human understanding.


The ox knows its master, the donkey its owner’s manger, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand.’


All this also comes from the Lord Almighty, whose plan is wonderful, whose wisdom is magnificent.


‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.


Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed by his idols. The images he makes are a fraud; they have no breath in them.


great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to the ways of all mankind; you reward each person according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve.


‘But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?”


The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
