But a prophet of the Lord named Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army when it returned to Samaria. He said to them, ‘Because the Lord, the God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he gave them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a rage that reaches to heaven.


They break up my road; they succeed in destroying me. “No-one can help him,” they say.


For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the broken-hearted.


Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.


Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.


and I am very angry with the nations that feel secure. I was only a little angry, but they went too far with the punishment.”
