Then Joab and the troops with him advanced to fight the Arameans, and they fled before him.


But they fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred of their charioteers and forty thousand of their foot soldiers. He also struck down Shobak the commander of their army, and he died there.


I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me.


But the wicked will perish: though the Lord’s enemies are like the flowers of the field, they will be consumed, they will go up in smoke.


It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?


Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire; at your rebuke your people perish.


The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.


At the uproar of your army, the peoples flee; when you rise up, the nations scatter.


As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake before you!


Surely wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns, it sets the forest thickets ablaze, so that it rolls upwards in a column of smoke.


Why will your warriors be laid low? They cannot stand, for the Lord will push them down.


Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears, like chaff swirling from a threshing-floor, like smoke escaping through a window.


The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split apart, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope.


Whenever the ark set out, Moses said, ‘Rise up, Lord! May your enemies be scattered; may your foes flee before you.’
