There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.


Arrogant foes are attacking me; ruthless people are trying to kill me – people without regard for God.


Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the realm of the dead, for evil finds lodging among them.


Let the assembled peoples gather round you, while you sit enthroned over them on high.


How long, Lord God Almighty, will your anger smoulder against the prayers of your people?


Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob.


The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.


You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,


God also said to Moses, ‘Say to the Israelites, “The Lord, the God of your fathers – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob – has sent me to you.” ‘This is my name for ever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.


Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah!


When its twigs are dry, they are broken off and women come and make fires with them. For this is a people without understanding; so their Maker has no compassion on them, and their Creator shows them no favour.


But you, Lord, know all their plots to kill me. Do not forgive their crimes or blot out their sins from your sight. Let them be overthrown before you; deal with them in the time of your anger.


The royal ministers, prefects, satraps, advisors and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den.


‘Are not you Israelites the same to me as the Cushites?’ declares the Lord. ‘Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt, the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?


It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.


because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
