Then Absalom would say to him, ‘Look, your claims are valid and proper, but there is no representative of the king to hear you.’


and said to him, ‘May my lord not hold me guilty. Do not remember how your servant did wrong on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem. May the king put it out of his mind.


‘Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,’ says the Lord. ‘I will protect them from those who malign them.’


from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.


Do not hand me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations.


Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about.


Arrogant foes are attacking me; ruthless people are trying to kill me – people without regard for God.


They say, ‘God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no-one will rescue him.’


They scoff, and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression.


The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.
