Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet.


Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbours and an object of dread to my closest friends – those who see me on the street flee from me.


You have taken from me friend and neighbour – darkness is my closest friend.


Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.


By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished.


But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.’ Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.


Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance.


But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.


‘A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.
