because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.’


You must always be careful to keep the decrees and regulations, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not worship other gods.


Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them.


‘You came down on Mount Sinai; you spoke to them from heaven. You gave them regulations and laws that are just and right, and decrees and commands that are good.


that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the Lord.


The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.


Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.


Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees.


I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors.


and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.


The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.


I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.


Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight.


I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.


May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees.


Your statutes are my delight; they are my counsellors.


How I long for your precepts! In your righteousness preserve my life.


Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge.


May I wholeheartedly follow your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.


If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.


And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.


Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,


I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.’


Your statutes, Lord, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days.


Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and instructions.’


For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.


‘Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.


For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life,


You come to the help of those who gladly do right, who remember your ways. But when we continued to sin against them, you were angry. How then can we be saved?


When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty.


And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.


Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.


For in my inner being I delight in God’s law;


What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, ‘You shall not covet.’


‘For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God.


Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.


And rejoice before the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name – you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, the Levites in your towns, and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows living among you.


Be joyful at your festival – you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites, the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns.
