Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s enemies; let the nations fall beneath your feet.


Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: he will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.


I am in the midst of lions; I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts – men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.


See what they spew from their mouths – the words from their lips are sharp as swords, and they think, ‘Who can hear us?’


He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.


Whoever derides their neighbour has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.


A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.


With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbours, but through knowledge the righteous escape.


The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.


A scoundrel plots evil, and on their lips it is like a scorching fire.


The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.


The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.


A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not go free.


A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will perish.


Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘See, I will refine and test them, for what else can I do because of the sin of my people?


But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practise magic arts, the idolaters and all liars – they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.’
