The people commended all who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.

‘This is the law of the temple: all the surrounding area on top of the mountain will be most holy. Such is the law of the temple.


who will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. He will deliver us from the Assyrians when they invade our land and march across our borders.


But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’


In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.


Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.


Those who accepted his message were baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.


When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul: ‘You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law.


But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand.


For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him in our dealing with you.


For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.


Thanks be to God, who put into the heart of Titus the same concern I have for you.


For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love


for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose.


For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.


who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.


equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.


After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no-one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.


‘When the princes in Israel take the lead, when the people willingly offer themselves – praise the Lord!
