‘But they were disobedient and rebelled against you; they turned their backs on your law. They killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you; they committed awful blasphemies.


Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings


How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.


Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.


Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.


He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

My people are determined to turn from me. Even though they call me God Most High, I will by no means exalt them.


Woe to them, because they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, because they have rebelled against me! I long to redeem them but they speak about me falsely.


Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Turn from your evil ways and your evil practices.” But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the Lord.


He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.


The rest seized his servants, ill-treated them and killed them.


And you say, “If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.”


So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.


Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly astonished.


May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.’
