His offering was: one silver plate weighing a hundred and thirty shekels and one silver sprinkling bowl weighing seventy shekels, both according to the sanctuary shekel, each filled with the finest flour mixed with olive oil as a grain offering;


Prompted by her mother, she said, ‘Give me here on a dish the head of John the Baptist.’


In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea


She went out and said to her mother, ‘What shall I ask for?’ ‘The head of John the Baptist,’ she answered.


The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her.
