For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them.


‘I will make you a ruin and a reproach among the nations around you, in the sight of all who pass by.


‘Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. ‘But you ask, “How are we robbing you?” ‘In tithes and offerings.


‘All these I have kept,’ the young man said. ‘What do I still lack?’


Jesus looked at him and loved him. ‘One thing you lack,’ he said. ‘Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’


But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbour?’


Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.


as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.
